A strategic partnership involves entering into an agreement for long-term collaboration with a shared research agenda. Various models of collaboration are active within the partnership.
Strategic partnership in short
Term

At least four years

A strategic partnership is entered into for a long term, at least four years.
Goal

Shared research agenda

The aim is to pool expertise and carry out (research) activities relating to one or more research priorities. The collaboration is of strategic importance to all parties in order to achieve the organisational objectives.
Scope

Two or more partners

Financial

Own or external financing

It is clear in advance what the parties are investing. The partnership may have the objective of raising external funding.

Example: archaeological collaboration in Amsterdam

The City of Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam and the Allard Pierson are collaborating to share the results of archaeological excavations and academic research with a wide audience. The City's Monuments and Archaeology Department is providing archaeological finds from excavations, excavation and find data, and is developing a website. The ACASA department of the University of Amsterdam contributes specialist knowledge to the development of academic research, projects and education, including student internships and theses. And the Allard Pierson Museum has expertise in presenting and transferring knowledge to a wide audience: from Greek archaeology to the archaeology of Amsterdam. Together, the parties stimulate the connection between science and society.
